Elaine Horton, President, launched the charity’s ‘Have a Heart’ campaign at the Breast Cancer Seminar in Benissa and introduced small heart-shaped pillows made by the ‘Crafty Devils’, a craft group which takes place at Casa de Ánimo, Jalon Valley Help’s ‘Drop in’ Centre in Alcalalí. This initiative had quickly become a ‘community project’ involving members of a local church and those living locally. These pillows were given away free to breast cancer patients and the Cancer Charities present at the Seminar – the heart shape being particularly comfortable to tuck into the armpit and helping to reduce pressure on the wound site.
Elaine went on to explain that Jane Trask, a JVH volunteer and member of the craft group, had suggested the idea of the cushions and been instrumental in ensuring that 250 of them were made in time for the Seminar. In recognition of all her hard work she was presented with the Jalon Valley Help Volunteer of the Month Certificate for September 2013.
